Terrassa Half Marathon: 18 Champions and Eight Records in 25 Editions

The 26th edition of the race, held at the Parc dels Catalans, will not feature African athletes, making a new record unlikely.

The International Half Marathon of Terrassa, celebrating its 26th edition tomorrow at the Parc dels Catalans, has seen 18 different champions and eight records broken in the 25 races held since 2000.

Only two Catalan athletes have managed to win the race three times: Francisco Javier Cortés Huete (2002, 2003, 2004) and Carles Castillejo (2016, 2017, 2018). Three other runners, including Mourad El Bannouri, have secured two victories in the event's history.
The course record has been broken eight times, with the last three instances occurring in the three most recent editions. The first winner, in 2000, was the local athlete Bartolomé Serrano, clocking 1 hour, 9 minutes, and 38 seconds.

The current record for the International Half Marathon of Terrassa stands at 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 18 seconds, set by Ethiopian Mikiyas Barega last year.

The first foreign victory came in 2005 with Kenyan James Mibei. Nine of the 18 champions have been foreign, including four Moroccan and three Kenyan athletes, notably recent winners Dominc Kipkirui (2023) and Mike Boit (2024).
It seems difficult for the current record to be broken in the 26th edition, as, for the first time in years, African athletes, who have recently dominated the event and set the latest records, will not be participating.
