The Terrassa City Council will receive €166,198 from the Catalan Waste Agency to finance improvements in selective waste collection and the implementation of smart containers starting in 2026.

The subsidy, granted by the Department of Territory and financed by the Catalan Waste Agency (ARC), amounts exactly to €166,198.29 and was made public on Friday, January 9. These funds are intended to implement efficient systems that increase the recycling rate and comply with European directives.

To finance actions that contribute to the promotion of efficient selective collection projects for the different fractions of municipal waste, from a circular economy perspective.

The resolution approved aid for a total of 79 applicants, including 75 local entities (such as Terrassa and Sabadell) and four businesses and services. The total amount of aid for local entities (Category 1) is €9,376,058.00, representing almost the entire call for proposals.
The subsidized projects have an execution period of 36 months. The Terrassa City Council, having received 90% of the eligible funding, must contribute the remaining 10% of the total project cost. The ARC prioritized projects that involve a change in the collection system and include the establishment of a fair fee or limitation on the residual fraction contribution.
The aid will allow Terrassa to advance the smart container pilot program planned for 2026 in the urbanizations of Can Palet de Vista Alegre, Vista Alegre, and Can Gonteres. Other actions include improving the Can Casanovas recycling center for reuse purposes and reinforcing inspection teams to reduce uncivil behavior and the abandonment of bulky objects.
