The work, which began last October, was promoted by the Bishopric of Terrassa and the parish after a small roof detachment alerted them to the need for a long-planned structural reform. The scaffolding, which reached over 20 meters in height and was highly visible, was dismantled last Friday.
“"We are talking about a very old building with very high ceilings. When we detected the detachment, the first thing we did was go up to the roof and see what was happening. That's how we saw there were small cracks resulting from the building's normal expansion."
The renovation included repainting the ceiling in beige and brownish colors, installing new moldings, repairing cracks, and updating the lighting with LED technology. The total cost of the project was approximately 200,000 euros, financed by the parish, the Bishopric, and significantly, by donations from the faithful.
The rector, Mossèn Carles Cahuana, expressed his satisfaction and announced a second phase focusing on the lateral chapels and the altar ceiling, expected to be completed before Easter (Setmana Santa). This Sunday, the temple will host the ordination of eight seminarians, presided over by Bishop Salvador Cristau on February 1.
The Cathedral of Sant Esperit, an exponent of late Gothic architecture, has been designated Catalan Cultural Heritage since May 23, 2002. Notable elements include the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament (1907) by Lluís Muncunill and the current presbytery, designed by Lluís Bonet Garí, Enric Monjo, and Antoni Vila Arrufat.
