The young rider, 23 years old and from Alicante, is considered one of the great promises of Spanish cycling. The accident occurred near his hometown of Caldes de Montbui, in Vallès Oriental, and resulted in a head injury.
Following the collision, Guardeño was urgently transferred by helicopter to Parc Taulí, where he remains hospitalized and sedated in the ICU with serious injuries. His health status is pending evolution, as reported by his team, Caja Rural-RGA, in an official statement.

Recently, Guardeño had completed the Volta a Catalunya last Sunday. The previous year, he achieved a notable 14th position in the Vuelta Ciclista a España, being the second-best Spanish cyclist in the general classification. For this season, he had planned to participate in the Tour de France.
