The Educational Assembly of Catalonia (AEC) has agreed to call a strike in public schools for next September 8th, coinciding with the first day of the academic year.

The decision was made during the 7th AEC assembly, held in Sant Celoni, with the participation of representatives from unions such as USTEC, CGT, Intersindical CNT, and COS. AEC spokesperson Mònica Rodrigo stated that, although the Department of Education claims the school year will begin normally, this will not be the case. Therefore, they urge the Government to urgently convene the negotiation table to reach consensus and improve the public education system.
Rodrigo emphasized the need to continue the series of mobilizations, as the demands of the educational system, from early childhood education (0-3) to vocational training, have not been heard. According to the spokesperson, current proposals do not change the daily reality in classrooms or improve the public system; they merely maintain it with its existing shortcomings.
The assembly, which brought together about eighty people including territorial representatives, teachers, educational support staff, and union members, also validated a manifesto for the promotion of Catalan in classrooms. The AEC believes that Catalan faces a serious problem in schools and institutes, with limited use in playgrounds and an unsatisfactory level in secondary education. They also expressed concern about the hiring of an advisor in the ministry who has questioned the unity of the language in the Catalan Countries.
The next AEC assembly is scheduled for September 19th.
