The Xerrem program promotes open and free Catalan conversation groups for individuals who do not speak Catalan or are not fluent, guided by volunteers. This initiative aims not only to improve basic oral proficiency in Catalan but also to foster social cohesion within the municipality, promote knowledge and appreciation of the region, encourage intercultural dialogue, strengthen the host community, and empower participants personally.
Since 2022, the Mollet del Vallès City Council, through its Social Services Community Team, has maintained a collaboration agreement with the CAL (Coordinadora d'Associacions per la Llengua Catalana - Association for the Catalan Language) to promote these social Catalan conversation spaces in the town.
Since its implementation, several conversation groups have been established, with a total of 16 young people and 44 adults participating, all interested in learning or improving the language through conversation and social interaction.
Currently, the project involves two volunteers, trained by CAL, who are responsible for facilitating the social Catalan conversation groups.
During the 2025-2026 academic year, two Xerrem groups were held at the Adult Education Center (CFA) in Mollet del Vallès, with the participation of 22 individuals.
