The Passada de l'Ascensió in Granollers will dedicate this year's edition to the hobbyhorse dance, a popular tradition featuring seven troupes from various Catalan-speaking territories who will parade on Saturday at 6 PM.

This popular cultural manifestation, deeply rooted yet little known, will be the main focus of the event. The objective is to give visibility to this artistic expression, which simulates the riding of horse-shaped figures.

"The hobbyhorse dance had already been present in some of the first editions of the Passada, but this is the first time the entire event is dedicated to it. It is a very little-known interlude, and precisely for this reason we want to reclaim it and make it known."

The seven invited troupes come from different parts of Catalonia, Mallorca, and the Valencian Country, each with its own style and particular figures. Among them will be the Cavallets Cotoners de Barcelona, the Turcs i Cavallets de Tarragona, the Cotonines de Vilanova i la Geltrú, the Cavallets de Valls, the Cavallets d'Ontinyent, the Cavallets Cotoners de Palma de Mallorca, and the Cavallins de la Lira de Montornès.
The Cavallins de la Lira de Montornès troupe, the only one from Vallès Oriental dedicated to this dance, was founded in 2007 and has a strong connection with Granollers, as its figures were created in the Sarandaca de Roca Umbert workshop. This group represents the battle of the second Remença revolt, a historical event that took place in Montornès on January 4, 1485.

"It is the only hobbyhorse dance we have in the region, and it hasn't performed for 12 years. After such a long time, this part of Montornès' festive heritage will be exceptionally recovered this year at the Passada."

The organizing entity, L'Olla dels Pobres, will strengthen its collaboration with the Montornès troupe by providing dancers to ensure their participation, as they had not performed for some time due to a lack of members.
