The Granollers Primàries collective has announced the call for primary elections on June 6, aiming to select its municipal representatives in Granollers and promote greater citizen participation in local politics.

This initiative stems from the desire to combat the perception of deficient municipal management in areas such as paving, education, security, housing, and the environment, as expressed by Carles Canet, coordinator and volunteer of the group. According to Canet, the current situation in Granollers resembles a dystopia where, despite shortcomings, citizens seem to accept it with complacency.

"The real danger of the future is that people may come to be happy, and love their servitude, under a tyrannical regime."

Aldous Huxley · Professor, philosopher, and writer
Canet refers to Aldous Huxley's famous quote to illustrate his concern about citizen passivity in the face of the "tyranny" of a prolonged absolute majority, which, he claims, has been maintained through clientelism. He criticizes the current way of doing politics, where candidates appear shortly before elections and lists are formed without genuine citizen representation.
To counteract this dynamic, Granollers Primàries proposes a model based on constant work, learning, public service spirit, active listening, debate, and transparency. The goal is for the citizens of Granollers to be able to directly decide who they want to represent them in municipal decision-making bodies.
The elections on June 6 are open to any citizen of Granollers who wishes to run as a candidate, meeting minimum and justified requirements, or simply participate as a voter. This initiative seeks to build a better Granollers and Catalonia, free from tyrannies and a political approach that does not connect with the real needs of the population.
