The Catalan Education Assembly (AEC) has called for a strike on September 8, coinciding with the start of the 2026-2027 school year, following its seventh assembly held in Sant Celoni.

The decision, made during the meeting in Sant Celoni, has the support of unions such as USTEC, CGT, Intersindical, CNT, and COS, which could formalize the official strike call in public schools.
The AEC urges the Department of Education to convene the negotiation table with the strike committee this July to address the sector's demands. According to the entity's spokesperson, Mònica Rodrigo, the Government's proposals do not meet the needs of the public education system nor resolve the deficiencies identified across all educational stages.
During the assembly, a manifesto was also approved proposing the promotion of Catalan language use in educational centers. The entity expresses concern over the reduction of the language's social presence, particularly in playgrounds and secondary education, and calls for specific actions to reverse this trend.
The meeting gathered around eighty participants, including teachers, educational support staff, leisure professionals, and union representatives. The next AEC assembly is scheduled for September 19.
