The fire alert was received at 4:57 AM. Extinguishing teams expect the work to control the flames to last for several hours, as the main objective is to contain the pile of waste and prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the facility.
Due to smoke visible in municipalities such as Montmeló and Montornès, Protecció Civil has activated the Procicat plan in pre-alert phase. Residents in the affected areas are advised to shelter in place due to the smoke plume.
The emergency has caused mobility issues, with the access to the AP-7 motorway from the C-35 being closed. Heavy machinery and the facility's own water systems are being used to assist in the extinguishing efforts.
