A section of the R3 railway bridge crossing Onze de Setembre Avenue in la Garriga collapsed this Saturday, March 14, during ongoing expansion works by ADIF.

The la Garriga City Council confirmed that no one was injured in the incident. However, local officials have criticized the 'poor execution' of the project and are demanding an urgent investigation into the safety protocols of the state-owned infrastructure manager.

"What happened is very serious. They have left the works half-finished without guaranteeing safety. ADIF must provide explanations and take responsibility immediately."

Meritxell Budó · Mayor of la Garriga
The R3 line has been closed between Parets del Vallès and la Garriga since October due to the track doubling project. The works in the Vallès Oriental region are expected to last until May, followed by a second phase of construction.
