The Granollers-based choir was recognized for winning three awards during its participation in the prestigious international festival, held last July in the United States. The choir secured first prize in the Gospel/Spiritual and Folklore categories, along with a second prize in Historical Music.
The mayor, Alba Barnusell, presided over the event, which took place in the City Council's plenary hall. During the reception, Barnusell praised the young singers' passion and love for music, emphasizing that their performance on international stages was already an exceptional achievement. She thanked the choir for promoting the name of Granollers worldwide and for bringing a piece of local musical history, referencing the works by maestro Josep Maria Ruera that were performed.
The choir's director, Josep Vila, highlighted the high caliber of the participating choirs at the event, considered one of the most important festivals globally. Vila mentioned that the preparation for the performances was integrated into the choir's regular routine, without excessive dedication. He described the experience as an emotional and technical leap forward, an opportunity for teamwork and for interpreting musical works with their own unique sensibility.
Vila also expressed his surprise at winning a gospel competition in the United States, the genre's birthplace, considering it an unexpected success.
