The Assembly of Education of Catalonia (AEC) has decided to call a strike in public schools for September 8th, coinciding with the first day of the 2026-2027 academic year.

The decision was made during the seventh Assembly of the AEC, held in Sant Celoni, with the participation of union representatives from USTEC, CGT, Intersindical CNT, and COS. These unions are the only ones with the legal capacity to call the strike.
The spokesperson for the AEC, Mònica Rodrigo, stated that despite the Department of Education's claims of a normal start to the school year, the reality will be different. She urged the Catalan Government to "urgently" convene the negotiation table with the strike committee to "reach consensus and improve the public system".
Rodrigo emphasized the need to continue the series of mobilizations, as she believes the demands of the entire education system, from early childhood education to vocational training, have not been heard. According to the spokesperson, the department's "small proposals" do not change the daily reality in classrooms or solve the system's "shortcomings and problems".
The assembly, attended by around 80 people including representatives from territorial assemblies, teachers, and educational leisure staff, expressed satisfaction with the work done and the legitimacy gained to make "important decisions".
