Vallès Oriental Employment: August Sees 24% Year-on-Year Increase

August 2026 saw 9,217 labor contracts signed in the Vallès Oriental region, a 24% increase compared to the previous year, according to the Council's Observatory-Studies Center.

August 2026 concluded with the formalization of 9,217 labor contracts in Vallès Oriental. Although this figure represents a decrease from July's 13,036 contracts, a typical trend due to the summer slowdown, the year-on-year trend is clearly positive. There were 1,789 more contracts than in August 2025, a 24% increase.
The year-on-year rise is evident in both permanent contracts, totaling 3,088 (+7.47%), and temporary contracts, which grew by 1,377 (+19.69%). Regarding working hours, full-time contracts increased by 508 (+29%), and part-time contracts by 321 (+28%). Women saw their employment grow by 912 (+912), while men registered 877 more.
Compared to July, hiring experienced a generalized decline. Fixed-term discontinuous and part-time contracts dropped between 25% and 30%. Permanent contracts now account for 33.5% of the total, three points less than the previous month, while temporary contracts stand at 66.5%. Women represent 44.5% of the contracts, with 4,109.
By municipality, hiring only grew in Lliçà d’Amunt (+8) and Santa Maria de Martorelles (+14) compared to July. The largest monthly drops occurred in Les Franqueses del Vallès (-40%), Canovelles (-62%), and Parets del Vallès (-49%). In the year-on-year evolution, notable increases were seen in Granollers (+45%), Mollet del Vallès (+43%), and La Roca del Vallès (+53%).
The accumulated hiring from January to August 2026 reached 88,141 contracts, a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. In Catalonia, August saw 182,326 contracts, with a year-on-year growth of 13.9%, driven by an increase in permanent hiring.
