Alba Barnusell, Mayor of Granollers, confirmed that the Montserrat Montero Consortium will formally request the integration of the special education center into the Generalitat public network to solve its historical funding deficit.

The announcement comes at the midpoint of Barnusell's term, which began in May 2023. The measure seeks to guarantee the future sustainability of the Montserrat Montero Special Education Center, which serves 132 students, 30 of whom are from Granollers. The City Council has had to ensure the center's maintenance with its own resources for the past ten years.

The only guarantee to ensure the sustainability of the center is not that it depends on political, legal, or technical wills, but that it integrates into the public network, like any other school.

Regarding the mandate review, Barnusell described it as “intense” and progressing at a good pace according to the Municipal Action Program (PAM). Among the major transformations underway, she highlighted the pacification of Avinguda Sant Esteve and the renaturalization of the Congost River. She also mentioned the agreement on the collective bargaining agreement, which had not been renewed for ten years.
The mayor also addressed the tension with nursery school teachers regarding the I2 gratuity, decreed by the Generalitat without resource transfer. Barnusell defended the normalization of ratios to accommodate growing demand and assured that the council maintains extraordinary professional staffing, exceeding standards.
Another key focus is the demand for infrastructure from the Generalitat, especially the public residence for the elderly, a need documented since 2009. Barnusell reiterated the request to President Salvador Illa and the Minister of Social Rights, who will visit the city soon. The City Council is willing to revise the project if there is a firm commitment to financing and place concertation.
