The meeting served to share knowledge and address clinical controversies. One of the main focuses was the presentation of results from two research projects led by the hospital. The VARIFALDI study has shown that intensive control of vascular risk factors can slow cognitive decline by 60% in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's dementia, as measured by the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the GDS scale.
In the field of stroke, the ARES study compared intravenous thrombolysis with the best available medical treatment in patients with minor strokes. The results indicate that patients treated with thrombolysis had a significantly higher probability of achieving an excellent functional status after three months.
The conference also addressed therapeutic novelties in migraine during pregnancy, polyneuropathies, sleep disorders, multiple sclerosis, advance directives, and movement disorders. Discussions included the withdrawal of treatment for well-controlled epilepsies and the incorporation of new dementia treatments, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach.
“"We are very pleased to see how, year after year, the Neurological Conferences consolidate their high participation and excellent satisfaction levels among attendees. We trust that this meeting has provided useful tools and new scientific evidence for daily clinical practice."
The conference is part of the ‘Salut Plus’ Strategic Plan and the commitment of the Hospital General de Granollers to knowledge generation and continuous improvement in the care of people with neurological diseases.
