School transport services in the Vallès Oriental region have undergone significant modifications due to intense rainfall and subsequent disruptions to the road network. Several municipalities have experienced altered routes to ensure student safety.
Following guidance from the Departament d’Educació, municipalities such as Canovelles, Cardedeu, Granollers, les Franqueses del Vallès, Sant Antoni de Vilamajor, Sant Pere de Vilamajor, la Roca del Vallès, and Vilanova del Vallès have suspended educational activities. Consequently, some school transport routes have been cancelled, particularly those where families had already indicated their children would not be using the service.
For routes already in service when the situation was announced, students were either transported to their educational centers or, in other cases, arrangements were made with families for their return to the usual stops, with safety always being the top priority.
The Montserrat Montero Special Education Center in Granollers has had its routes suspended due to access issues at the facility, preventing the service from operating.
Other services experienced significant delays due to road closures. It was necessary to modify planned routes and use alternative access roads to maintain service delivery as much as possible.
The Consell Comarcal expressed gratitude for the understanding and flexibility shown by families, educational centers, operating companies, and municipalities during this challenging day. Constant communication was vital in prioritizing student well-being.
The school transport service will continue to monitor weather developments and road conditions in the coming hours to ensure user safety. This action aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4: "Quality Education".
