The new paving stone, placed at number 22 Sant Pau street, where Bartalot Pagès lived with his wife and children, commemorates the figure of this resident who lived from agriculture and livestock farming in the town. Bartalot Pagès, who was a councilor for Unió de Rabassaires, was killed by the Francoist side while trying to go into exile in France.
According to his grandson, Rafel Bartalot, 66, his grandfather tried to flee to France after the Battle of the Ebro but was stopped in Cassà de la Selva by the Francoist side. Bartalot appreciated the City Council's recognition, stating that "this act is correct because nothing more can be done."
“"We dignify all those people repressed by the Francoist dictatorship or killed during the Civil War. It was an era of darkness where our neighbor had to go into exile and they ended up murdering him."
The institutional event was attended by family members of Ramon Bartalot Pagès, municipal technicians, and councilors from the governing team. Mayor Óscar Sierra highlighted the importance of dignifying the victims of the dictatorship and expressed his confidence that the historical memory law can repair the memory of many families.
The placement of the paving stone is part of the commemoration of the Day of tribute in memory of the victims of the Civil War and Francoist repression, which is held every October 15th.
