The intense rainfall events that affected Martorelles and the wider Vallès Oriental region on October 3rd and 5th necessitated the activation of various preventive and safety measures. The Martorelles City Council initiated the municipal alert phase for rain during both episodes, anticipating heavy precipitation and the risk of flooding.
The first episode, on Saturday, October 3rd, included an ES Alert warning for torrential rain from the afternoon until Sunday morning, October 4th. Residents were advised to avoid non-essential travel, outdoor activities, and markets and fairs were suspended. Access to flood-prone areas was prohibited as a precaution.
This situation altered weekend activities. The Joventut Sardanista dinner was maintained, while the Senior Citizens' Lunch was rescheduled to October 18th. The cemeteries of Martorelles and Santa Maria de Martorelles were temporarily closed on Sunday morning for safety reasons.
The second episode occurred on Monday, October 5th, triggering another ES-ALERT and reactivating the municipal alert. A lockdown was imposed on Vallès Oriental until 2 PM, introducing further restrictions and reinforcing the need to avoid flood-prone zones.
As a precautionary measure, schools were closed for the day on Monday. The public was reminded to call 112 in emergencies and to follow official information channels.
The two episodes marked a week of intense rainfall in Vallès Oriental. Close monitoring was maintained for the water levels of the Can Sunyer stream, the Besòs River, and critical areas like the intersection of recta de la Derbi and Verneda. Despite the significant rainfall, no serious personal injuries were reported.
