The Sant Crist Chapel, located in the cemetery of Sant Feliu de Codines, is recognized for its historical and heritage value. Built around 1859, the chapel is notable for its modernist paintings, a style uncommon in the province of Barcelona, with only four chapels sharing this characteristic.
The artistic ensemble, comprising murals and rose windows, is in a condition requiring intervention for its recovery and enhancement. A study by the Local Architectural Heritage Service of the Diputació de Barcelona has explored various hypotheses regarding the paintings' iconography. It is suggested that the main mural might depict the Last Supper, while the side medallions could represent Saint Paul and Saint Peter.
The Protocol and Cemetery Management Department has secured the necessary support to proceed with the restoration. The Diputació de Barcelona has awarded the City Council a technical grant of €16,000 for the drafting of the chapel's basic and/or executive project.
Initial actions will focus on the roof to prevent further damage from water ingress and dampness affecting both the building and the paintings. Concurrently, a detailed project will be developed to outline the necessary interventions for the comprehensive restoration of the chapel and its artistic elements.
