The municipal request is based on the extent of damage recorded throughout the municipality, affecting key infrastructure, public spaces, industrial estates, agricultural areas, and private buildings, among others.
The rainfall event led to the activation of Catalonia's Special Flood Emergency Plan (INUNCAT) and the local civil protection plan, necessitating extraordinary measures such as the suspension of educational activities for two days.
Through this request, the council aims for Vilanova del Vallès to access support measures provided by law for areas affected by civil protection emergencies. It calls for aid activation for affected individuals, support for the economic sector (shops, SMEs, self-employed, industry, agriculture), coverage of urgent municipal expenses, and extraordinary fiscal measures like tax exemptions or reductions.
Additionally, the municipal resolution urges the Generalitat de Catalunya to implement complementary support measures, provide resources for public asset recovery, and collaborate in damage assessment, as well as promote financial support instruments for affected businesses and shops.
Municipal technical services are preparing expert reports to quantify the total cost of damages, which will be submitted to higher administrations to support aid requests. The magnitude of extraordinary expenses poses a significant challenge to the council's economic capacity.
