According to data from the Institut d'Estadística de Catalunya (Idescat), the internal migratory balance, which includes movements with other Catalan municipalities and the rest of Spain, stood at 331 people. This increase is part of a broader context of increased residential mobility in Catalonia, where changes of residence continue to rise year after year.
The regional capital, Valls, remains the main pole of attraction, concentrating the highest volume of internal migratory gain with 125 people. However, its total internal migratory balance is 112 people, also indicating movements towards nearby municipalities.
This growth trend is not limited to Valls. Localities such as Cabra del Camp, with a positive balance of 64 people, and Vallmoll, with 46, also contribute significantly. Other municipalities like Montferri (+27), Alcover (+27), and Vila-rodona (+19) reinforce the overall balance of the region.
This broader distribution of the population within Alt Camp suggests a decentralization of growth, possibly influenced by factors such as access to more affordable housing or the search for quieter environments.
Despite the overall positive balance, some municipalities have experienced losses. Pla de Santa Maria records a negative internal migratory balance of −40 people, being the most affected. Other localities with negative values include Rourell (−9), Riba (−8), Bràfim (−4), and Mont-ral (−4). These losses could be linked to a lack of residential offerings or services.
At the Catalonia level, in 2024, 282,739 changes of residence between municipalities were registered, a 3% increase from the previous year. The region achieved a total migratory balance of 122,593 people, the second highest in the last 17 years, with a positive balance with foreign countries and a negative one with the rest of Spain.
