A very active forest fire broke out in Aiguamúrcia (Tarragona) this Sunday, already affecting 80 hectares of forest land and forcing the confinement of several population centers.

The Generalitat Firefighters have been working since Sunday afternoon on a forest fire described as "very active" and "high intensity" in Aiguamúrcia, Tarragona. The blaze, fueled by the sea breeze, is consuming forest vegetation at an intense rate and has provisionally affected approximately 80 hectares in the municipalities of Aiguamúrcia and Querol (Alt Camp) and Pontons (Alt Penedès).
The situation has necessitated the confinement of the population centers of Ranxos de Bonany, Bon Any, Valldossera, Can Llenes, Mas Gassons, El Mas Vermell, and Pontons. The Catalan Traffic Service has reported the closure of the T-244 road between Querol and Aiguamúrcia due to the fire.
More than 160 firefighters, supported by 53 ground crews and nine aerial units, are working on the scene. Among the deployed personnel are members of the Forest Action Group (Graf) and the Forest Active Prevention Team (Epaf), with assistance from the Forest Defense Groups (ADF). Aerial resources are conducting water drops on both flanks of the fire, which has generated several secondary outbreaks.
Sources from the Firefighters have indicated that the fire has a "high potential" and its stabilization is still expected to be some way off.
