The Alcover City Council demands the immediate execution of works to eliminate railway level crossings, a project approved in 2007 that is facing delays due to the awarded company's reluctance.

The elimination of railway level crossings in the municipality of Alcover remains stalled, causing indignation among municipal political groups. The project, drafted in 2007, was scheduled to begin construction in March 2025, but work has yet to commence.
According to information provided by the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF) to the Alcover City Council on January 27, 2025, the works had already been awarded to the company Abaldo, SA. However, this company has expressed reservations about executing the contract, arguing that the project is not economically viable and has requested its termination.
In response, ADIF has stated its intention to demand full compliance with the contract and force the execution of the works, considering there is no sufficient technical or legal justification for their non-commencement. This latest delay has prompted a reaction from the local council.
Consequently, the Alcover City Council unanimously approved a motion in the latest plenary session demanding that the works to eliminate the railway level crossings begin immediately.
