The Government's decision to extend interurban transport licenses has caused unrest in local political circles. According to sources from the republican party, maintaining current conditions is insufficient, as the service does not meet modern mobility needs, which have evolved significantly over the last two decades.
From the Valls City Council, the focus has been placed on territorial inequality. While some main lines operate correctly, other connections, such as those linking to Reus or towns like Vilaverd and Picamoixons, show serious deficiencies in schedules and frequencies. The on-demand transport service between Querol and el Pont d'Armentera has also been highlighted as inefficient for users.
“"We cannot leave citizens without an alternative to the railway chaos, but we demand that this extension does not reach the maximum allowed term and that clear improvements are incorporated."
The proposal put forward by the political group includes limiting the extension to a maximum of six years to force the Administration and companies to implement structural changes. The goal is for each concession to be linked to an emergency plan that optimizes existing lines and creates new ones, prioritizing medium and small municipalities.
Finally, it was emphasized that the transport system must be a basic tool to guarantee access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and the labor market for vulnerable groups, such as the elderly or students, preventing reforms from becoming mere palliative measures without real impact.
