The popular jury found the two main defendants guilty of murdering a man in Valls in March 2023, following the verdict reading held this Friday at the Audiència de Tarragona.

During the reading of the verdict, the members of the court considered it proven that the two men slit the victim's throat with a bladed weapon and buried the body on the ground floor of the building located on Carrer de l'Església. The jury unanimously agreed that the victim had a debt of only 35 euros with the main defendants, at a location where drugs were also sold and consumed.

The jury determines that a minimum of two people are needed to carry out this type of aggression.

The popular court ruled that the victim's volitional and cognitive capacities were severely diminished during the assault due to drug consumption. Furthermore, they considered that the injuries inflicted prior to death also reduced his ability to defend himself.
Regarding the cover-up, the jury acquitted one of the investigated women due to lack of evidence, but found the other two defendants guilty. One of them is the woman who went to the Valls Local Police to report the crime, as the jury concluded she participated in cleaning the crime scene, whether coerced or not.
The Prosecutor's Office has maintained its sentencing requests, asking for a total of 31 years in prison for the two main defendants (25 for murder and 6 for illegal detention). For those guilty of cover-up, the public ministry requests three years in prison and a joint indemnity of 125,000 euros for the victim's relatives.
