The Valls council has approved the General Budget for the Corporation for the 2026 fiscal year, a key document for the municipal economic framework. The councillor for public works and services, Martí Barberà (Junts), presented the figures, which set the municipal expenditure at 39,184,400 euros. Added to this are the budgets of the autonomous bodies: 2,903,700 euros for Vallsgenera and 2,340,200 euros for the Municipal Sports Board of Valls. Municipal companies also have significant allocations: 741,100 euros for VIAS SAM, 51.94 million euros for Gestió Pius Hospital de Valls, and 298,078 euros for PROVALLS.
The budget presentation sparked an intense debate with interventions from various political groups. The spokesperson for the PSC, Juan Felipe Martínez, criticized the slowness of investments and announced his group's 'no' vote, arguing that the current pace harms residents. The CUP representative, Jèssica Beltran, expressed disappointment with the predictability of the accounts, expecting more surprising proposals. She also pointed out the lack of progress in housing and social services, and reiterated the demand for the management of the Civic Center and better utilization of cultural resources.
From Vox, the negative vote was announced, arguing that the budget does not benefit the working class or the city's merchants. In response to the criticism, Martí Barberà defended the government's coherence, stating, "We have a government pact and it is written where we are going, therefore, this is not being predictable, it is being coherent with the agreements we make and decide."
Finally, after a brief reply from Juan Felipe and Jèssica Beltran, the vote reflected the division in the council. The budget was approved by 14 votes in favor, while 7 voted against. The agreement also includes the staff of the City Council and its autonomous bodies, as well as a 1.5% salary update for public employees and elected officials, in line with state regulations. The modification of the Job Positions List (RLT) was also approved. Once publicly displayed for fifteen business days for potential objections, the budget will come into effect for the 2026 fiscal year if no claims are filed.
