On Saturday, June 20th, Valls hosted the L’Envelat exhibition, an event that brought together folklore figures from seven Catalan groups, all characterized by wearing a crown, like the host, the Valls' Lion. This gathering celebrates the fifteenth anniversary of the Lion's creation, originally unveiled for the 2011 Decennals.
Coinciding with the anniversary, the Valls' Lion has unveiled a new crown. According to Albert Oliva, president of the Unió Anelles de la Flama (UAF), the previous crown was deteriorated. The new piece, described as an "innovative proposal," is inspired by vegetal and floral motifs, with references to carnations and mimosas, aiming to maintain respect for the original work of the Valls' Lion.
The Exhibition of Crowned Elements of Catalonia featured the participation of the Lion of Reus, the Eagle of Tàrrega, the Giant Kings of Badalona, the Lion of Lleida, the Eagle of El Vendrell, and the Coloms Giants of Sant Andreu de Palomar. Although this year it was named L’Envelat, it is the third edition of such gatherings organized by the UAF.
Previous editions included the Exhibition of Wild Bestiary of Catalonia in 2024, coinciding with the Bear's 25th anniversary, and last year the Exhibition of Small Mulassas of Catalonia. Albert Oliva assures that L’Envelat "is a proposal that has come to stay," with the intention of celebrating an anniversary annually and focusing on a specific theme, as was the case with the crowned elements this year.
The event began at 11 AM at the Caputxins promenade with the participating elements gathered and a talk on the art of metal in festivals. Later, at 12 PM, a parade started, concluding at Plaça de les Garrofes, where display dances were performed.
