The company Canteras La Ponderosa, based in Alcover, has been honored at the 7th edition of the FPCAT 2025 Awards for its work in the professional training of future mining and public works employees in Alt Camp.

The recognition highlights the collaboration model between the company and the educational center, initiated in 2022 with the Chamber of Commerce of Valls, which allows students of the Higher Vocational Training Cycle in Excavations and Drilling to learn the profession under real working conditions. This initiative addresses the shortage of qualified labor in the sector and promotes direct hiring of graduates.
Since 2022, Canteras La Ponderosa has adapted its facilities and provided state-of-the-art heavy machinery for theoretical and practical classes of the CFGM in Excavations and Drilling at the IES Jaume Huguet de Valls, in an intensive dual modality. Students receive on-site training with high-level technical preparation in occupational safety.
The initiative is developed through an agreement with the educational center, the Chamber of Commerce of Valls, and the Gremi d’Àrids de Catalunya. The company owner, Josep Rodríguez, accepted the award in a ceremony attended by councilors Esther Niubó and Miquel Sàmper, as well as representatives from the institute, the Chamber, and the Association.
In this edition, the awards recognized various individual careers, training centers, companies, and entities, as well as students. This initiative aims to improve business competitiveness and ensure the continuity of qualified professionals in the region, with the support of the Chamber of Commerce of Valls in talent acquisition and development.
