The Contracting Board has approved the award of the second phase of the Valls wall restoration, focused on the Hort del Rector area. This comprehensive intervention, combining architectural conservation with urban transformation of the surroundings, represents a significant step in the recovery of the city's historical heritage.
The new section of works is located between Muralla de Sant Antoni and Mur streets, covering an area of over 1,300 square meters with a considerable slope. Its proximity to the Sant Joan church enhances the historical and symbolic value of this area, a fundamental part of Valls' old town.
The work will focus on the consolidation and restoration of the medieval wall, respecting original materials such as stone and rammed earth, and reinforcing structures to ensure long-term preservation. Concurrently, the project includes the urbanization of the space with new accessible pavements, green areas, urban furniture, and improvements in public lighting.
A key aspect of the intervention will be the integration of any archaeological remains that may appear during the works. These vestiges will be documented and preserved, contributing to expanding knowledge about the city's historical evolution and preserving the original layout of the medieval defensive system.
The project has been awarded for an amount of 963,703.71 euros (VAT included) to a temporary union of companies, which must accredit the technical requirements before the start of the works. This initiative is part of a broader project, structured in three phases, which plans to intervene in different sections of the Valls wall.
Beyond heritage restoration, the council aims to transform this space into a new meeting point for residents and visitors, fully integrating it into urban life. The goal is for the wall to become a functional, accessible, and vibrant space, beyond its historical value.
The project also seeks funding through programs such as the 2% cultural, which supports heritage conservation actions. This line of aid reinforces the commitment to enhance Valls' historical legacy and promote its preservation with criteria of sustainability and respect for the territory.
