Seven people were injured due to carbon monoxide poisoning in an apartment building in Cabanes. The incident occurred this Wednesday around 10:45 PM on Canal street, mobilizing the Medical Emergency System (SEM) with six ambulances, four units of the Fire Department, and the Mossos d’Esquadra police force.
Health personnel received the alert regarding people experiencing dizziness and discomfort consistent with monoxide inhalation. The Fire Department checked the four-story building's apartments and confirmed that the cause was poor combustion in a boiler located on a first-floor apartment.
The poor combustion of a boiler on a first-floor apartment was certified as the origin of the carbon monoxide leak.
Of the seven affected individuals, five were transferred to medical centers. One man was seriously injured and evacuated to the Moisès Broggi Hospital in Sant Joan Despí, which has a hyperbaric chamber. A woman, a man, and a minor were taken to Palamós Hospital, and another man to Figueres Regional Hospital, all in less serious condition.
Finally, medical personnel treated two more individuals (a man and a woman) at the scene, who were discharged immediately. The Fire Department shut off the building's main gas valve, and the gas company took charge of the fault around 1:30 AM, concluding the service early Thursday morning.
