According to data from the Agència Catalana de l'Aigua (ACA), the reservoir recorded 61,795 hm³ at 10 AM, exceeding 97% of its total capacity. This rapid recovery is mainly due to accumulated rain, particularly the heavy downpour during the storm of last Tuesday.
These figures place the Darnius-Boadella reservoir at its highest level since January 2020, immediately after the Gloria storm. The growth has been exponential; while last Thursday it reached 92.5%, just a few days prior it did not exceed 85%.
The current volume contrasts dramatically with the situation experienced during the water crisis. At the peak of the drought, in March 2025, the reservoir contained only 11% of its capacity, which forced the implementation of severe restrictions in the Alt Empordà.
Given the forecast for more rainfall and to regulate the incoming water volumes from river headwaters like the Muga and the Arnera, the ACA has increased the release of water from the reservoir in recent weeks. This measure aims to ensure the reservoir can absorb new flows without losing water resources.
