The streaming platform Netflix has successfully premiered the six-episode series City of Shadows, an adaptation of the novel El Verdugo de Gaudí by the Barcelona writer Aro Sáinz de la Maza, focusing on police officer Milo Malart's past in El Port de la Selva.

The series, directed by Jorge Torregrossa and starring Isak Férriz and the late Verónica Echegui, reconstructs the plot of the first book in the saga dedicated to the Catalan police officer (Mosso d'Esquadra) Milo Malart. This work, initially titled El asesino de La Pedrera (2012), was renamed City of Shadows for its audiovisual version.
One of the central elements of the thriller's psychological component is the protagonist's childhood and adolescence in El Port de la Selva, where he was sent to escape a complex family situation. This town in the Empordà region becomes the detective's constant refuge and appears at the beginning of the Netflix production.
The plot of El Verdugo de Gaudí, filmed mainly in Barcelona, begins with the appearance of a serial killer who links his crimes to the work of the architect Gaudí. This novel was the first in the series, followed by El ángulo muerto (2016), Dócil (2020) —winner of several awards— and Malart (2023), which concludes the highly successful saga among readers and critics.
