The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued warnings regarding Storm Leonardo, which is set to bring persistent rain, strong winds, and severe maritime weather to Spain over the coming days.

Storm Leonardo will continue to affect the Iberian Peninsula. Due to soil saturation and thawing, the persistent rainfall could lead to a significant hydrological impact in river basins across Andalusia, Extremadura, and Castilla y León.

"Landslides and damage to property and infrastructure are probable."

Forecasts for Thursday indicate the heaviest rainfall will be concentrated in the Central System, the Southern Meseta, and the northwestern peninsula. In parts of the Baetic Systems, where heavy rain has already fallen, accumulations could locally exceed 300 mm over two days. Showers with thunderstorms and hail are also expected in Galicia.
Although Leonardo is expected to lose strength on Friday, it will continue to bring precipitation to the Atlantic side and snow below 1,000 meters in the northwest. The situation could worsen on Saturday with the potential arrival of a new storm, intensifying rain and wind, particularly in the southern third of the country. Severe maritime weather will persist in areas such as Galicia, the Cantabrian Sea, Alborán, and the Balearic Islands.
