The approval, carried out within the framework of the Labor Relations Council, has the consensus of the most representative social and economic agents. These include the unions CCOO and UGT, and the employers' associations Foment and Pimec. In addition to these twelve common holidays, each local council may add two local festivals that are paid and non-recoverable.
Among the fixed public holidays for the year 2026, highlights include January 1 (New Year's Day, Thursday), January 6 (Epiphany, Tuesday), and the Easter festivities: Good Friday (April 3) and Easter Monday (April 6).
Also designated as holidays are May 1 (International Workers' Day), June 24 (Saint John's Day), August 15 (The Assumption), the Catalonia National Day (September 11), and the National Day of Spain (October 12).
Finally, the calendar includes December 8 (The Immaculate Conception), Christmas (December 25), and Saint Stephen's Day (December 26). It should be noted that in the Val d'Aran, the Saint Stephen's Day holiday will be replaced by the Festa d'Aran, on June 17.
