Figueres Celebrates Young Talent with Youth Research Project Awards

The city of Figueres hosted yesterday, Wednesday, April 23, 2026, the awards ceremony for the Youth Baccalaureate Research Projects, highlighting the talent of young researchers from the region.

The event, organized by the Institut d'Estudis Empordanesos and IAEDEN-Salvem l'Empordà, took place at the Narcís Monturiol auditorium of the Cercle Sport. During the evening, the XXV Albert Compte Award, focused on humanities and social sciences, and the XXXVI Josep M. Álvarez Award, dedicated to environmental and nature topics, were presented.
As a novelty this year, the Albert Tomàs i Bassols Scholarship was awarded for the first time, an initiative designed to strengthen recognition for the first-prize winning projects. The ceremony was led by the president of the IEE, Anna Maria Puig, and included speeches by Marc Soler and Llorenç Pascua representing the organizing entities.
In the humanities and social sciences category, the Albert Compte Award was granted to Jana Quesada Barceló. As for the Josep M. Álvarez Award, the top honor went to Elna Mach Puigdevall for her work titled Quan l'aigua parla. El missatge ecològic de la Muga.
The closing of the event featured a performance by the choir of the Institut Deulofeu, which brought to an end an evening dedicated to celebrating the research and talent of baccalaureate students from the region.
