The two devices, which cost 14,600 euros, allow for five consecutive discharges and have a range of 15 meters. Furthermore, the devices include a personal camera that activates automatically when the Taser is used, recording the 60 seconds prior to the action to provide legal security.
“"These recordings provide us with validity and legal certainty that our actions comply with current regulations."
The Head of the Local Police, Lluís Lupiáñez, emphasized that the tool is “very suitable and very effective,” but that dialogue and mediation will always be the priority. The Tasers are considered an intermediate solution “between the police baton and the service weapon,” especially useful for dealing with “altered or agitated people without reason” in Figueres.
Mayor Jordi Masquef used the presentation to reinforce the message of security and order, recalling that the incorporation of the Tasers is part of a motion approved by the municipal plenary session in October 2024. Masquef announced other measures planned for 2026, such as the installation of license plate reader cameras and the opening of an anti-squatting office.
“"This is a key year for security, and order and law in this city are non-negotiable. Whoever wants to live outside the law has no place in Figueres."
