Figueres actor Joan Marmaneu returns to the Teatre El Jardí stage this Friday, February 6, with his first monologue, 'Com es moren els ocells,' a reflection on death and life.

The actor from Figueres, Joan Marmaneu (1994), returns to the stage of the Teatre El Jardí in Figueres this Friday, February 6, with two sessions of his first solo work, Com es moren els ocells (How birds die). The text, written and directed by Oriol Morales, brings to life Eugeni, a young man who confronts his own mortality following the sudden death of his mother.
The play does not focus solely on grief, but uses loss as an excuse for a vitalistic reflection. Marmaneu explains that the goal is to talk about 'what I can do with my life now that I am alive, what I can fix,' seeking a point of light and love within the darkness.

"When the audience gets emotional with you, that launches you and makes you give one hundred percent."

The monologue is especially intimate, as the actor speaks directly into the eyes of the spectators. The set design, created by Mercè Lucchetti, includes organic elements like earth and water, combined with technology such as a looper and live camera, creating a 'very artisanal' production.
Although Marmaneu is establishing himself in the theatre world, he currently balances projects like the play Salomé (by Òscar Wilde, at the Teatre Tantarantana) or rehearsals for La nit de les Tríbades (directed by Oriol Broggi, premiering on March 6), with other jobs. Previously, he worked as a secular funeral orator in Barcelona, an experience that made death part of his daily life.
