The municipal group of Junts per Catalunya in Figueres approved a motion on Thursday censuring the Central Government's migrant regularization, calling it irresponsible and socially damaging.

The action in the Figueres City Council is part of Junts' strategy to define its stance on migratory policy, while the party leadership, headed by Míriam Nogueras in the Congress of Deputies, insists on demanding the transfer of immigration powers to the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Irresponsible and with serious economic and social consequences.

The Mayor of Figueres, Jordi Masquef, openly criticizes the regularization, considering it a “blank check” that impacts “issues as crucial as language and culture.” The motion, approved this Thursday, argues that migratory flows must be “legal, orderly, sustainable, and linked to the real needs of Catalonia.”

"Fears about the regularization process are part of many prejudices that are on the table, in an environment where hate speech generates a lot of fear."

In Girona, where Junts governs with the CUP, Deputy Mayor Gemma Geis has demanded ten years of registration (empadronament) to access fifty social housing flats for young people. This idea of tightening access to protected housing through registration has also been promoted by other Junts mayors, such as those in Sant Cugat del Vallès or Vic.
