The Minister of Transport and Urban Mobility, Óscar Puente, appeared before the Senate on Thursday to defend investment in the Rodalies network in Catalonia following recent rail chaos.

After a long session regarding the fatal crash in Córdoba, the head of Transport faced the uncomfortable appearance concerning Rodalies, with the service still partially affected following the fatal accident in Gelida. Puente provided a detailed chronology of incidents on the R4 line and across the entire network since Tuesday, January 20.
The Minister sought to appease critics regarding the lack of investment in railway infrastructure, emphasizing that “Out of every two euros invested in Catalonia, one is for Rodalies.” He also reviewed the allocations planned in the Rodalies 2026-2030 plan, which was presented recently.

"It is clear that we invest a lot, and it is not enough. It has also become clear that maintenance needs more resources and a different approach."

Puente addressed the Popular Party directly, criticizing them for the lack of fleet modernization during their governments. He asserted that all trains operating on the Rodalies network “have always been tendered, awarded, and put into service by socialist governments.”
The session was marked by tension. The Vox Senator, Ángel Gordillo, insisted on demanding the Minister's resignation, calling him the “cause” of the Adamuz tragedy, although his intervention did not focus on the actual subject of the appearance regarding Rodalies.
