Agnès Quintana, whose family has lived in the Culubret neighborhood of Figueres for generations, has highlighted the long-standing issue of repeated electricity supply failures. According to her letter, complaints filed with the Figueres City Council, the Mossos d’Esquadra, and the electric company have had no effect, and the outages continue almost daily.
The lack of supply affects basic rights, preventing residents from having heating, cooking, or warming food. Quintana emphasizes that this situation is particularly serious for neighbors who religiously pay their bills and taxes, and who expect to receive an essential service.
“"It is intolerable that, after so many years demanding a solution, we are still in the same situation."
In her specific case, the situation is critical due to her mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's. Every evening, upon returning from the day center, they often have to carry her in a wheelchair up to their home in the dark, as power cuts typically occur around 6 PM. This lack of essential service creates situations of great hardship and insecurity.
Quintana stresses that access to basic supplies, such as electricity, is an essential right linked to a dignified life, safety, and the protection of vulnerable people. She demands that the competent administrations act immediately and effectively to guarantee the dignity and respect that the Culubret neighborhood deserves.
