Yan Ficker, who grew up in Roses, began his musical journey at the local Rock and Modern Music School, taking guitar lessons from the age of five and later piano. Heavily influenced by Neil Young, his music matured as he became increasingly aware of global injustices.
This awareness motivated him to compose lyrics tackling issues such as the rise of the far-right, the hypocrisies of the European Union, wars, and the destruction of planetary resources. These compositions finally took shape in his self-published album, El crim del segle, released in 2025.
“"I had started composing the songs a long time ago and had the idea in mind, but I needed time and money to be able to do it, and now I have been able to make a dream I had since I was little come true."
Recorded at Tonstudio Leipzig in Germany and co-produced with engineer Fabian Günter, the album is rooted in pop-rock, featuring nods to Neil Young and Crazy Horse, specifically referencing the iconic Ragged Glory. Other influences include Supertramp and Mazoni. The album features twelve tracks, two of which are instrumental, with lyrics sung in four languages: Catalan, Spanish, English, and German.
Ficker also explores intimate themes, dedicating one song to his late grandmother. The album is available on digital platforms and in physical copies distributed in Figueres and La Bisbal d'Empordà, where a presentation concert is scheduled for the upcoming spring.
