The reinforcement of Plan Daga, coordinated by the Mossos d’Esquadra, began 15 months ago with the goal of removing bladed weapons from public spaces. Despite these efforts, data from the first half of 2025 shows that 4,715 weapons were confiscated, averaging 25 per day, and 2,319 related incidents were recorded.
The more you look, the more you find.
The most common weapon seized is the folding knife (3,401 units in H1 2025), followed by kitchen knives (1,036). To tackle this situation, the Mossos doubled prevention hours during the first half of 2025, dedicating 85,385 hours to controls, compared to 42,148 in the same period the previous year.
The General Directorate of Police indicates that the problem is mainly concentrated in Barcelona, where the Guàrdia Urbana seized 1,232 weapons in the first nine months of 2025, a 40% increase over 2024. Incidents are concentrated on weekends, in nightlife areas, and on public transport.
“"There are different social and cultural patterns that lead many people to believe they can carry a bladed weapon without consequences."
