The Rural Agents Corps activated Level 3 of the Plan Alfa this Sunday, indicating a very high risk of forest fires. This measure impacts 123 municipalities spread across 13 counties in Catalonia. Given this situation, the public is urged to exercise extreme caution when in natural environments and to immediately call 112 if any smoke column is detected.
The implementation of Level 3 entails the suspension of all previously authorized or communicated activities that pose a fire risk. Key restrictions include a ban on lighting fires in any open space, the halt of agricultural and forest burns, and a prohibition on fires in recreational areas and campsites. Furthermore, the use of machinery that could generate sparks or electrical discharges within 400 meters of forest land is limited. The use of pyrotechnic material and tools like blowtorches or radial saws in these zones is also forbidden.
The Plan Alfa is the operational device of the Rural Agents designed for forest fire prevention and remains active year-round. This plan assesses the risk daily on a five-level scale, ranging from 0 (low risk) to 4 (extreme risk), and applies specific preventive measures for each municipality.
Authorities recommend consulting the interactive map of Plan Alfa before engaging in any outdoor activities. They remind the public that with Level 3 activated, it is crucial to avoid any action that could trigger a fire. This situation may also lead to the activation of the pre-alert phase of the Civil Protection's INFOCAT Plan.
