The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has issued a high-risk alert this Sunday, March 15, for the regions of Alt Empordà, Berguedà, and Ripollès due to extreme wind conditions.

Sunday is marked by severe weather in northern Catalonia. In Portbou, wind gusts have exceeded 160 km/h, with similar figures recorded in the high peaks of the Pyrenees and Cerdanya. This situation is caused by the pressure difference between a Mediterranean storm and the Azores high-pressure system.

"It is not a good day for mountain activities, and extreme caution is required."

While the Empordà faces the Tramuntana wind, the Mestral is blowing strongly in the Ebre region and Tarragona. In the Pyrenees, snow and wind are creating blizzard conditions. Despite the wind, temperatures are expected to rise, particularly in Barcelona and Girona, reaching up to 18 degrees Celsius.
