The Bàscara Town Council has successfully designated four ethnographic sites as Cultural Assets of Local Interest (BCIL) following an agreement by the Alt Empordà County Council in late January.

The protected elements include the Mas Sans tile and brick kiln, a lime kiln, and two traditional charcoal structures known as 'súties'. These sites were rediscovered in the Calabuig area by local history buffs who found them hidden under dense forest growth after decades of neglect.
The initiative aims to preserve the rural memory of the region, which was historically documented in the book L'antic municipi de Calabuig by Carles Bosch and Antoni Egea. These structures represent a past economy based on forestry and clay extraction that supplemented local farming families.

"It is necessary to document, catalog, protect, and disseminate the historical and ethnological heritage of our municipality."
