The Friends of the Dalí Museums presented the Dalí Route in Cadaqués this Saturday, a tour designed to mark some thirty key locations for Salvador Dalí's life and work. The initiative, which uses signs with ant drawings as its distinctive feature, will enable visitors to freely explore the artist's most significant spaces in the town.
The itinerary connects places with strong symbolic weight, such as the former Hotel Miramar, where Dalí met Gala, or El Llaner, the family's summer residence and a space that hosted Federico García Lorca during his visits. Journalist Josep Playà, responsible for the design, highlighted the difficulty in selecting the points due to the large number of spaces related to Dalí in Cadaqués.
Dalí's connection with Cadaqués dates back to his childhood, spending summers there before his better-known association with Portlligat. The Empordà landscape was a constant source of inspiration, reflected in numerous works, particularly in his early creative period.
The route goes beyond the most famous spots like Portlligat or El Llaner, and includes locations such as the Church of Santa Maria, the Casino de l'Amistat, the artist's first studio at Punta d'en Pampà, and the Riba d'en Pitxot, from where he painted Port Alguer. It also highlights the town's connection with other avant-garde figures such as Federico García Lorca, Luis Buñuel, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, and Àngel Planells.
The signs, designed by Jordi Palmada, are round and feature an ant drawing, a Dalinian symbol, thus facilitating visitors' independent exploration of the route. Playà emphasized that thirty locations were chosen for their biographical relevance or their appearance in the painter's works.
The initiative, which already has a precedent in Figueres with a similar itinerary launched in 2021, aims to promote cultural tourism in Cadaqués. The mayor, Pia Serinyana, stressed the route's importance for the municipality, stating that "many corners of the town speak of Dalí" and that the proposal is attractive to all audiences.
