The Cap de Creus Fishery Producers Organization (OPP-96), led by Antoni Abad, has received the Producer Award for its strategic unification of five Alt Empordà ports this March.

The alliance includes the ports of Roses, Llançà, Cadaqués, Port de la Selva, and l'Escala. By forming an OPP, the sector can now access European funding and professionalize the marketing of local species under the Peix del Cap de Creus brand, emphasizing freshness and local quality.

"We have fish that is caught today, auctioned today, and eaten for dinner today."

The organization is also addressing climate change challenges, such as the rise of deep-water rose shrimp populations. Future projects include gourmet packaging and training programs to ensure the fishing industry remains a key economic and cultural pillar for the coastal towns of northern Catalonia.
