The village of Capmany in the Alt Empordà region celebrated its historic 'Rancho' this February, a culinary event recognized as the oldest documented tradition of its kind in Catalonia.

The festivities began on Sunday with a crowded Carnival parade through the streets. The main event took place on Tuesday, when eight large cauldrons were prepared for the public. This tradition dates back centuries, when locals would visit farmhouses in Bosquerós and Vila d'Avall to collect ingredients like pork, vegetables, and wine.

"Both festivals were very busy, with a lot of participation. Everything went perfectly."

Xavier Rodà · President of the Capmany Rancho Association
Mayor Joan Fuentes praised the event for honoring the town's heritage. Capmany is an active member of the Federation of Historic Escudellas, Ranchos, and Soups of Catalonia, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting these ancient communal meals.
