Catalan farmers lifted the blockades on the AP-7 in Alt Empordà and the C-16 in Berguedà on Monday, after President Salvador Illa committed to increasing the Agriculture budget and promoting aid.

After five days of protests, Catalan farmers lifted the last road blockades this Monday, unblocking the AP-7 in Alt Empordà and the C-16 in Berguedà. This decision followed a meeting between sector representatives, President Salvador Illa, and Agriculture Minister Òscar Ordeig at the Palau de la Generalitat.

"We leave satisfied because Illa has adopted Ordeig's commitments to the sector as his own."

Among the commitments made by the Government, highlights include increasing the budget of the Department of Agriculture, conducting a study to equalize the hydrocarbon tax for the primary sector, and increasing audits and controls on products originating from outside Europe.
The mobilizations, primarily protesting the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, had kept key routes like the AP-7 in Pontós and the C-16 in Olvan blocked for four nights. Earlier, protesters had already lifted the blockade on the A-27, the access road to the Port of Tarragona.
